How JoyInWork handles your data
I will keep this as plain and readable as possible. No legal jargon, no deliberately confusing language. Just a clear explanation of what data this site collects, why, and what I do with it.

01Who Is Responsible for Your Data
JoyInWork is a personal blog owned and operated by me, Ibra, a strategy consultant.
For the purposes of data protection law, I am the data controller for information collected through this website.

02What Data Is Collected and Why
2.1 Data You Give Me Directly
Email address (collected when you subscribe to the newsletter)
- Why it is collected: to send you the weekly newsletter and, if applicable, a free lead magnet such as the 5 Day Productivity Reset.
- How it is used: only for the purpose you signed up for. Your email address is never sold, rented, or shared with third parties outside of the tools required to operate the newsletter (see Section 4).
- How long it is kept: for as long as you remain subscribed. When you unsubscribe, your email address is removed from the active list. Depending on the email platform used, it may be retained in a suppression list to honour your unsubscribe request.
Name (if provided when subscribing or contacting)
- Why it is collected: to personalise communication.
- How it is used: only internally. Never published or shared.
Message content (when you use the contact form or reply to a newsletter)
- Why it is collected: to allow me to respond to your query.
- How it is used: read and responded to personally. Not stored beyond what is necessary to handle your request.
2.2 Data Collected Automatically
Analytics data (via Google Analytics)
- What is collected: pages visited, time spent on pages, approximate geographic location (country or region level, not precise), device type, browser type, referring website.
- Why it is collected: to understand which content is most useful to readers and how people find the site.
- What is not collected: your name, email address, or any information that identifies you personally.
- How long it is kept: typically 14 months.
Cookies (small text files stored on your device)
- Essential cookies: required for the site to function. Cannot be disabled.
- Analytics cookies: only set if you consent via the cookie banner.
- Advertising cookies: if display advertising is active (for example, through Mediavine or a similar network), the ad network may set cookies to serve relevant ads. You will be notified via the cookie banner and can opt out.
You can manage or disable cookies at any time through your browser settings. Note that disabling certain cookies may affect how parts of the site function.
03Legal Basis for Processing Your Data
Under GDPR and similar data protection laws, I need a legal reason to process your personal data. The legal bases used on this site are:
- Consent: for newsletter subscriptions, analytics cookies, and advertising cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests: for basic site security, fraud prevention, and maintaining technical functionality.
- Legal obligation: where required to comply with applicable law.
04Third Party Services and Data Processors
4.1 Web Hosting
This site is hosted on Hostinger. Basic server logs, including IP addresses and pages requested, may be retained by the hosting provider for security purposes.
4.2 Analytics
This site uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. Analytics cookies are only set if you consent via the cookie banner.
4.3 Ad Networks
If display advertising becomes active, the ad network (for example, Mediavine or Raptive) may collect data about your browsing behaviour to serve relevant advertisements. You can opt out through the banner or the ad network’s own tools.
4.4 WordPress and Plugins
This site runs on WordPress. Certain plugins, such as contact form plugins or SEO tools, may process limited data as part of their function. No plugin data is shared with third parties beyond what is necessary for the plugin to operate.
05Data Security
I take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including:
- HTTPS encryption across the entire site
- Password protected access to all backend systems
- Use of reputable, security conscious third party platforms
No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. While every reasonable effort is made to protect your data, absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
06Children’s Privacy
This site is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal data to this site, please contact me and I will delete it promptly.
07Links to Other Websites
JoyInWork contains links to external websites, including sources, recommended tools, and affiliate products. This privacy policy applies only to this site. I am not responsible for the privacy practices of any external site and encourage you to read their policies before sharing any personal data with them.
08Changes to This Policy
This privacy policy is reviewed annually or whenever significant changes occur. When material changes are made, readers will be notified via the newsletter. The date of the most recent revision is always displayed at the top of this page.
